After the 2015 Presidential elections which saw a peaceful transition of power from incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan to General Mohammadu Buhari, many observers have rightfly expressed optimism for the future of Africa’s biggest economy. There is much to be optimistic about. For one, the Boko Haram counter-insurgency campaign has marked significant successes in the Northeast over the last year. However, by contrast in the Niger Delta region, communal, criminal, and election-related violence have been steadily rising.
On 18 June, 2014, the Imo State Chapter of the Partners for Peace Network was recognized by the State Government's Peace and Conflict Resolution Bureau as a member of the Imo State Coalition of Peace Advocates. The coalition is made up of a wide group of mediators and peace advocates working to promote sustainable peace in Imo.
On November 26-27, stakeholders from the private and public sectors came together to discuss innovated approaches to promoting micro, small, and medium enterprises in the Niger Delta. Please click below to read the summary report.
All nine P4P Niger Delta state chapters have begun their participatory conflict assessments which will directly inform their 2014 plans for conflict mitigation. During these workshops, participants analyze the existing quantitative data on patterns and trends in order to decide on a priority LGA for their intervention.
