Partners for Peace in the Niger Delta (P4P) proudly joins the global community in celebrating the 2024 International Day of Peace, observed annually on September 21st. This year’s theme, “Cultivating a Culture of Peace,” aligns closely with our core mission to foster lasting peace in the Niger Delta through inclusive dialogue, community engagement, and sustainable development initiatives.
The theme emphasizes the importance of nurturing values, attitudes, and behaviors that promote harmony, understanding, and non-violence. In a region often challenged by conflict, militancy, and socio-economic inequality, the need to cultivate a deep-rooted culture of peace has never been more urgent.
At P4P, we believe that peace is not a distant goal, but a continuous journey. This year, we have focused our efforts on promoting local conflict resolution mechanisms, empowering women and youth in peacebuilding, and strengthening partnerships with stakeholders committed to the peaceful development of the Niger Delta.
As we commemorate this day, P4P calls on all individuals, civil society organizations, government agencies, and corporate entities to reflect on their roles in fostering peace in their communities. True peace goes beyond the absence of conflict; it is about building relationships that are founded on respect, equity, justice, and compassion.
We use this occasion to honor the courageous peacebuilders across the region who work tirelessly to create an environment where peace can thrive. We celebrate their resilience and dedication in transforming conflict into cooperation and hostility into harmony.
P4P remains committed to the cause of peace, and today, we renew our call for a united effort towards a future where the Niger Delta flourishes as a beacon of hope, prosperity, and peace. High Chief Akomolafe P. National Coordinator P4P
